Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

Educational Qualification & Work Experience

(Reckoning date for experience: 01.07.2026)

  1. Process Technician / Operator (Chemical):
    • Qualification: AICTE-approved regular full-time Diploma in Chemical Engineering / Chemical Technology.
    • Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant post-qualification work experience OR 1 year of apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 in a Refining, Lube, Petroleum, Power, Petrochemical, or Fertilizer Industry of repute.
  2. Technician / Operator (Mechanical):
    • Qualification: AICTE-approved regular full-time Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant post-qualification work experience OR 1 year of apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 in an Engineering Industry of repute or allied sectors.
  3. Technician (Electrical):
    • Qualification: AICTE-approved regular full-time Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Electrical Power System / Electrical Engg. (Industrial Control).
    • Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant post-qualification work experience OR 1 year of apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 in an Engineering Industry of repute or allied sectors.

Marks Cut-off & Ineligibility Notes

  • Minimum Marks: 60% aggregate marks for General, EWS, and OBC (NCL) candidates; 50% aggregate marks for SC, ST, and PwBD candidates.
  • Lateral Entry & Sandwich Diplomas: Recognized lateral entry schemes (calculated on aggregate of 4 semesters) and continuous industrial sandwich diplomas are eligible.
  • Higher Qualification Ineligibility: Candidates possessing higher degrees such as B.E., B.Tech, or A.M.I.E. (even if completed after a Diploma) are not eligible to apply. Distance learning or part-time diplomas are also excluded.{inAds}

Age Limit (as on 01.07.2026)

  • General / EWS: 18 to 25 Years
  • OBC (NCL): Up to 28 Years (3 years relaxation)
  • SC / ST: Up to 30 Years (5 years relaxation)
  • PwBD: Up to 35 Years (Relaxable up to 13 years for OBC-NCL and 15 years for SC/ST)
  • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Age relaxation as per Government directives.
  • Max cumulative age relaxation limit is capped at 15 years.

Selection Process

The selection procedure comprises three distinct stages:

  1. Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)
    • Duration: 120 Minutes
    • Total Marks: 100 Objective MCQs (1 mark each, No Negative Marking)
    • Structure: Domain Knowledge (60 Marks) + General Aptitude comprising English, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness & Current Affairs (40 Marks).
    • Medium: English only
  2. Stage 2: Skill / Proficiency Test (SPT)
    • Shortlisted candidates will appear for an SPT at the respective refinery locations. The SPT is purely qualifying in nature.
  3. Stage 3: Pre-Employment Medical Examination
    • Selected candidates must clear medical standards set by BPCL.

  • General / OBC / EWS Candidates: ₹590/- (₹500 application fee + 18% GST) plus applicable payment gateway charges.
  • SC / ST / PwBD / ESM Candidates: Exempted from fee payment.
