Detailed Eligibility Criteria
1. Educational Qualifications
Candidates must meet both of the following academic and technical requirements:
- Matriculation: Must have passed the Matriculation Examination with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from a board recognized by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
- Three-Year Diploma: Must have completed a three-year diploma course with at least 50% marks in aggregate from an AICTE-recognized Polytechnic Institute.
The eligible diploma streams are divided into two entries:
- Engineering Stream: Marine Engineering & Systems, Mechanical, Production/Automobile, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Repair and Maintenance, Power Plant Engineering, Industrial/Production, Maintenance, Machine, Manufacturing/Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Instrumentation, and Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineering.
- Electrical Stream: Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, Electrical and Electronics, and Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineering.
2. Age Limit
The age criteria vary slightly depending on the batch you are applying for:
- 01/2027 Batch: Candidate should be born between December 1, 2004, and May 31, 2009 (Both dates inclusive).
- 02/2027 Batch: Candidate should be born between May 1, 2005, and October 31, 2009 (Both dates inclusive).
- Note: Candidates born between December 1, 2004, and October 31, 2009, are eligible to apply for the initial INET 2/2026 exam window.
3. Marital Status
Only unmarried Indian male candidates are eligible for enrolment. Candidates must give an 'unmarried' certificate at the time of enrolment and shall not be permitted to marry during their entire tenure of four years. A candidate will be dismissed if he marries during his service tenure.
Salary Package & Benefits (Seva Nidhi)
Agniveers will be paid a customized monthly package of ₹30,000 in the first year with a fixed yearly increment, reaching up to ₹40,000 in the fourth year. In addition, risk and hardship, dress, and travel allowances will be paid.
Yearly Pay Breakup & Corpus Fund Contributions:
- 1st Year: ₹30,000 customized package | ₹21,000 in-hand salary | ₹9,000 contribution to Agniveer Corpus Fund.
- 2nd Year: ₹33,000 customized package | ₹23,100 in-hand salary | ₹9,900 contribution to Agniveer Corpus Fund.
- 3rd Year: ₹36,500 customized package | ₹25,550 in-hand salary | ₹10,950 contribution to Agniveer Corpus Fund.
- 4th Year: ₹40,000 customized package | ₹28,000 in-hand salary | ₹12,000 contribution to Agniveer Corpus Fund.
On completion of the 4-year engagement period, candidates receive a one-time Seva Nidhi package consisting of their total contribution along with a matching contribution from the Government of India, totaling ₹5.02 Lakh from each side. There is no entitlement to regular gratuity or pensionary benefits.
Additional Insurance & Death Benefits
- Life Insurance Cover: A non-contributory life insurance cover of ₹48 Lakh for the service duration.
- Death Compensation: One-time ex-gratia of ₹44 Lakh for death attributable to service, provided to the Next of Kin (NOK) in addition to the insurance cover.
- Disability Compensation: One-time ex-gratia of ₹44 Lakh, ₹25 Lakh, or ₹15 Lakh based on the percentage of service-related disability (100%, 75%, or 50% respectively).{inAds}
Selection Process Breakdown
Stage I: Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET)
The first stage is a computer-based test conducted in August 2026 with the SSC acting as the exam partner.
- Exam Format: The paper is objective type (multiple-choice), bilingual (Hindi & English), and contains 100 questions of 1 mark each. Separate exams are held for Electrical and Engineering entries.
- Sections Covered: English & General Awareness, Science, Mathematics, and Diploma (Trade Specific).
- Duration & Passing: The exam is 1 hour long. Candidates must pass in all sections as well as in the overall aggregate.
- Negative Marking: One-fourth (0.25) of the mark assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer.
- Exemption Note: Verified Sponsor candidates and NCC 'C' certificate holders are exempted from the Stage I INET exam and will be issued direct call-up letters for Stage II.
Stage II: PFT, Written Exam, and Medicals
Based on Stage I marks, candidates are shortlisted state-wise for Stage II.
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Compulsory qualifying round involving a 1.6 Km run in 6 minutes and 30 seconds, 20 Squats, 15 Push-ups, and 15 Bent Knee Sit-ups.
- Stage II Written Exam: Conducted only for PFT qualifiers, featuring 100 multiple-choice questions across the same four sections with a 1-hour duration.
- Recruitment Medical Examination: Health checkup conducted by military doctors. Medically unfit candidates can appeal for a review within 5 days at a designated military hospital.
Permanent Enrolment Opportunity
Upon completion of the 4-year tenure, up to 25% of each batch of Agniveer (Apprentice) will be offered permanent enrolment in the regular cadre of the Indian Navy to become Artificers, based on centralized performance objective criteria.
Mandatory Physical & Medical Standards
- Minimum Height: 157 cms.
- Visual Standards: Uncorrected vision must be at least 6/12, 6/12; Corrected vision must be 6/6, 6/6 with a color perception standard of CP PASS.
- Permanent Body Tattoos: Only permitted on the inner face of the forearms and on the reversed/dorsal side of the palm/hand. Tattoos on other body parts are not acceptable.
- General Health: Must be in excellent physical and mental health, free from any disease or disability likely to interfere with performance both ashore and afloat.
Application Fee
An examination fee of Rs. 550/- plus 18% GST must be paid online during the Stage I registration process via Net Banking, Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Cards, or UPI. The fee is entirely non-refundable. No separate fee is charged for the Stage II process.
