Detailed Vacancy Breakdowns

1. Fishery Officer

Department: The Directorate of Fisheries 

Total Vacancies: 11 Posts 

Category-wise Roster: Unreserved (UR) – 1, Khasi-Jaintia (KJ) – 4, Garo – 5, Other Scheduled Tribes (OST) / Scheduled Castes (SCs) – 1.

Pay Scale: Level 12 of the Revised Pay Structure.

Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) or a B.Sc. in Pisciculture/Fishery Science from any recognized University.

Age Limit: 18 to 27 years as of January 1, 2026. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates holding a valid certificate from a competent authority in Meghalaya. There is no age bar for regular employees of the Government of Meghalaya who entered service within the prescribed age limits.

2. Junior Football Coach

Department: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Meghalaya, Shillong.

Total Vacancies: 2 Posts 

Category-wise Roster: Khasi-Jaintia (KJ) – 1, Garo – 1.

Pay Scale: Level 11 of the Revised Pay Structure.

Educational Qualification: 

Option A: Graduate in any stream, accompanied by a 1-year Diploma in Sports Coaching from NSNIS (Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports) or other Institutes/University/Colleges recognized by the Government of India in the concerned discipline. Special preference is given to higher medal winners at International, National, or Zonal recognized championships.

Option B: 10+2 (Class XII passed) with a Diploma in Sports Coaching from NSNIS or other Government-recognized institutes. This criteria is strictly applicable to sports achievers who are medalists at International, National, or Zonal recognized championships.

Age Limit: 18 to 32 years as of January 1, 2026. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for ST/SC candidates from Meghalaya. Furthermore, an age relaxation of up to 43 years is available for athletes who have participated at the National level, in accordance with the Meghalaya State Sports Policy 2019.

Important Eligibility & Degree Validity Notes

Crucial Cut-off Date: Applicants must acquire all requisite educational qualifications on or before the final application submission deadline. The qualification date is determined by the official declaration of results by the respective University or Board.

Unacceptable Age Proofs: The Commission only accepts the date of birth recorded in the Matriculation, Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), or equivalent Indian University certificates. Documents like horoscopes, affidavits, service records, or birth extracts from Municipal Corporations will be rejected.

Exclusions: As per judicial directives, technical degrees or certificates obtained from the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers (India) and the Aeronautical Society of India via admissions taken post May 31, 2013, are completely invalid for these positions. Qualifications from the Institution of Engineers (India) post May 31, 2013, remain subject to pending Government decisions.

Application Fee and Payment Process

General Fee Rate: Rs. 350/- for both posts.

Concessions: SC and ST candidates who are permanent residents of Meghalaya are entitled to half the standard rate.

Exemptions: Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWDs) are fully exempted from paying application fees, provided they upload a valid Disability Certificate issued by a competent authority.

Payment Channels: Fees can be cleared online via GRAS using Debit cards, Credit cards, Net Banking, or offline using an e-Challan generated from the portal at any branch of the State Bank of India (SBI). The Commission strongly advises candidates to prefer the e-Challan mode.{inAds}

Syllabus and Selection Methodology

The recruitment process will consist of a Screening Test (Multiple Choice Question pattern) followed by a Personal Interview.

Fishery Officer Examination Pattern

The Screening Test carries a total of 300 Marks and covers the following segments:

  • General English: 50 Marks 
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 50 Marks 
  • Aptitude and Reasoning: 50 Marks 
  • Domain Subject (B.F.Sc. / B.Sc. Pisciculture / Fishery Science): 150 Marks 

Junior Football Coach Examination Pattern

The Screening Test features a Class XII difficulty level, carrying a total of 200 Marks distributed as follows:

  • General English: 50 Marks 
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 100 Marks 
  • Reasoning: 50 Marks 

Note on Selection: There is no "Ineligibility List" published prior to the exam. All registered applicants will be permitted to sit for the Screening Test. However, documents will be rigorously verified prior to the Personal Interview, and any unqualified candidate will face immediate cancellation of candidature.

Examination Centres

The screening examinations will be conducted across five primary centers:

  1. Shillong 
  2. Tura 
  3. Jowai 
  4. Williamnagar 
  5. Nongstoin 

If the volume of candidates choosing Jowai, Nongstoin, or Williamnagar is insufficient, the Commission reserves the right to reallocate applicants to the nearest available center. Request for changing centers post-submission will not be considered.
