Meghalaya MTET 2025 Notification, Exam on 29th May 2026

Meghalaya TET 2026: Online Applications are invited for Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test 2026 (MTET 2026) from citizens of India who are permanent residents of the State of Meghalaya for Lower Primary (Classes I-V) and Upper Primary (Classes VI-VII) to be held on the 29th May 2026 (tentatively). Eligible candidates can apply online from 23rd March 2026 to 09th April 2026.

Exam Name: Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test 2026

  • Age limit: There shall be no age limit for candidates applying and appearing for MTET.
  • Medium of Examination: The Medium of Examination shall be English except for Language papers.

MTET 2026 Eligibility Criteria:

a. Classes I – V (Lower Primary)

  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
  • OR
  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms & Procedure), Regulations, 2002
  • OR
  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-Year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • OR
  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-Year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • OR
  • Graduation and 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
  • OR
  • A person who is pursuing any of the Teacher Education Courses (recognized by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) specified in the NCTE Notification dated 23rd August 2010.

b. Class VI – VIII (Upper Primary)

  • Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
  • OR
  • At least 50% marks in either Graduation or in Post-Graduation Bachelor's in Education (B.Ed). Graduation with at least 45% and a 1-Year Bachelor's in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.
  • OR
  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-Year Bachelor's in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • OR
  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed./ B.Sc. Ed.
  • OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-Year B.Ed. (Special Education)
  • OR
  • A person who is pursuing any of the Teacher Education Courses (recognized by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) specified in the NCTE Notification dated 23rd August 2010.

Note:

  • Relaxation up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for eligibility shall be allowed to the candidates belonging to reserved categories, such as SC/ST/OBC/OST/ OSC, and Persons with Disabilities.
  • Only Diploma/Degree Course in Teacher Education recognized by the NCTE shall be considered. However, in the case of D.Ed (Special Education) and B.Ed (Special Education), a course recognized by the RCI only shall be considered.

How to apply for Meghalaya TET 2026?

Interested and eligible candidates may apply online for the Meghalaya TET 2025 through the Meghalaya Education Department website https://megeducation.gov.in or https://dert.megeducation.gov.in from 07.02.2025 to 24.02.2025 up to 05:00 PM.

The date for the Meghalaya TET 2026 exam is 29th May 2026.

MTET 2026 Exam Pattern

The Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test shall consist of a Written Examination. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four alternatives, out of which only one option will be correct. There will be no negative marking. 

The Written Examination will consist of 2 Papers.

  • Paper I (LP) will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes I – V.
  • Paper II (UP) will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes VI – VIII.
  • A person who intends to be a teacher for both Classes I to V and for Classes VI to VIII will have to appear in both papers (i.e., Paper I & Paper II)

PAPER– I (for Classes I-V) Lower Primary (LP)

  • Child Development and Pedagogy 30 MCQs 30 Marks
  • Language I (Khasi/ Garo/ Assamese/ Bengali/ Hindi/ Nepali): 30 Marks
  • Language II (English): 30 Marks
  • Mathematics: 30 Marks
  • Environmental Studies: 30 Marks

PAPER- II (for Classes VI-VIII) Upper Primary (UP)

  • Child Development and Pedagogy (Compulsory): 30 Marks
  • Language I (Compulsory) (Khasi/ Garo/ Assamese/Bengali/ Hindi/Nepali/ Urdu/ Mizo): 30 Marks
  • Language II- Compulsory (English): 
  • (a) For Mathematics and Science Teacher (Mathematics & Science) or (b) For Social Science Teacher (Social Science): 60 Marks
  • For a candidate who intends to be a teacher at the Upper Primary Level, he/she must appear in i, ii, iii and in either iv (a) or iv (b).

  • The MTET will be conducted Sub-Divisional School Education Office –wise.

Examination Fees

  • Paper– I (Lower Primary): Rs. 1000/- for General and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/ OBC/OST/ OSC.
  • Paper– II (Upper Primary): Rs. 1000/- for General and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/ OBC/OST/ OSC.
  • For both papers: Rs. 2000/- for General and Rs. 1000/- for SC/ST/ OBC/OST/ OSC.
  • PwD candidates are exempted from paying Examination Fees.

Admit Cards can be downloaded from the official website of the Education Department at www. megeducation.gov.in before the commencement of the Test.

Validity of Meghalaya MTET 2026

The validity period of the MTET 202 qualifying certificate shall remain valid for life.
