Essential Educational Qualifications
To be eligible for the SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026, candidates must meet the following criteria as of 01.08.2026:
- Education: Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
- Skill Requirement: Only those candidates who possess stenography skills are eligible to apply.
- Age Limit (as on 01.08.2026):
- Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years.
- Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years.
- Note: Standard age relaxations apply for SC/ST, OBC, and PwBD candidates.
Scheme of Examination
The selection process consists of an objective-type Computer Based Examination (CBE). The examination features a sectional timer for each part as detailed below:
Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning
50 Questions | 50 Marks | 30 Minutes
Part II: General Awareness
50 Questions | 50 Marks | 30 Minutes
Part III: English Language & Comprehension
100 Questions | 100 Marks | 60 Minutes
Total Duration: 2 Hours (120 Minutes).
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Indicative Syllabus
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, visual memory, relationship concepts, and arithmetical reasoning.
- General Awareness: Current events, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity, and Scientific Research.
- English Language & Comprehension: Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and writing ability.
Skill Test in Stenography
Candidates shortlisted in the CBE must appear for the Skill Test (Qualifying in nature):
- Dictation: 10 minutes in English or Hindi.
- Speed for Grade ‘C’: 100 words per minute (w.p.m.).
- Speed for Grade ‘D’: 80 words per minute (w.p.m.).
