Comprehensive Selection Procedure

- Initial Screening: A Screening Committee will evaluate all applications based on credentials and shortlist candidates.
- Trade Test: Shortlisted candidates will face a practical Trade Test in their chosen discipline. This test is purely qualifying in nature.
- Competitive Written Examination: Candidates who successfully qualify in the Trade Test will be called for the written examination.
Structure of the Written Exam
The written test comprises 150 objective multiple-choice questions to be completed within 2 hours and 30 minutes. The test contains three distinct papers:
- Paper-I (Mental Ability Test): Lasts 1 hour and contains 50 questions for a maximum of 100 marks. This paper evaluates general intelligence, reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and situational judgment. There is no negative marking in Paper-I. It is qualifying in nature.
- Paper-II (General Awareness & English): Lasts 30 minutes and consists of 25 General Awareness questions (75 marks) and 25 English Language questions (75 marks). Every correct answer fetches 3 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect response.
- Paper-III (Concerned Subject/Trade): Lasts 1 hour and features 50 highly specialized questions related to the specific trade for 150 marks. It awards 3 marks per correct response and deducts 1 mark for each wrong answer.
Merit List Finalization: Paper-II and Paper-III will only be evaluated for candidates who achieve the minimum threshold/cut-off marks in Paper-I. The final merit list is prepared strictly based on the total marks combined from Paper-II and Paper-III.

- General, OBC, and EWS Candidates: Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred Rupees only). The fee must be paid exclusively through a Demand Draft (DD) drawn from a nationalized bank, valid for at least 3 months, in favor of the "Director, National Physical Laboratory" payable at New Delhi. Candidates must write their Name and the Post Code applied for on the back of the Demand Draft.
- Exempted Categories: Candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, Women, CSIR Employees, Transgender, and Abroad categories do not need to pay any application fee.

- Carefully fill out all personal details, ensuring your name, father's name, and date of birth match your 10th Standard / Matriculation certificate exactly.
