Eligibility Criteria
1. Residency & Community
Candidates must be permanent residents of Meghalaya and belong strictly to the Garo Community.
2. Educational Qualification
Applicants must be a holder of a degree in law (L.L.B.) from any recognized University.
3. Professional Experience
Candidates must be actively practicing as an Advocate in Courts of criminal and civil jurisdiction at the time of submitting the application. A minimum practice period of not less than 3 (three) years is mandatory. A certificate verifying this practice must be acquired from the concerned Bar Association and enclosed with the application.
4. Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 27 years
- Maximum Age: 37 years
- Note: The age will be calculated as on the last date fixed for receipt of applications (July 20, 2026).
5. Local Knowledge
Candidates must be thoroughly conversant in Garo customs, Garo practices, Garo language, and usage prevalent in the Autonomous Districts of Garo Hills.

How to Apply
The application process is offline and requires standard document submission:
- Application Form: The application must be submitted in the prescribed format, which can be obtained on payment of Rs. 100/- from the Receipt Cell of the District Council.
- Council Treasury Challan: An additional application fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) must be paid via the Council Treasury Challan.
- Submission Address: The completed application form, alongside all required documents, must be submitted in a sealed envelope to:

Method of Selection & Exam Syllabus
The selection procedure will comprise a Written Examination followed by a Personal Interview. The date of the written examination for eligible candidates will be notified in due course.
Written Examination (3 Papers)
- Paper-I (150 Marks | Duration: 3 Hours)
- Part-I (100 Marks): General Knowledge, General Aptitude, Comprehension and Expression of Law, and General English including Essay Writing on legal topics.
- Part-II (50 Marks): Garo customs, Garo language, and usages prevalent in the Autonomous District.
- Paper-II (100 Marks | Duration: 3 Hours)
- Constitutional Law including the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution, Transfer of Property Act, and Family Law (Marriage and Succession).
- Paper-III (100 Marks | Duration: 3 Hours)
- Civil Procedure Code (CPC), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyan-2023 (BSA), and Garo Hills Autonomous District (Administration of Justice) Rules, 1953.
Personal Interview (40 Marks)
Candidates who successfully pass the written screening examination will be called for a personal interview. Candidates must produce all original documents (educational, birth certificate, ST certificate, etc.) during the interview phase.
