Step-by-Step Selection Procedure

Securing a technician position in the Indian Railways relies entirely on merit and a clear three-stage verification flow:

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)

There will be separate, unique objective-type CBT exams matching the respective pay levels. Both exams span a total duration of 90 minutes and feature exactly 100 questions.

  • Negative Marking: A penalty of 1/3rd of a mark is systematically deducted for every wrong choice submitted.
  • Grade I Signal CBT Syllabus Sections: Covers General Awareness (10 marks), General Intelligence & Reasoning (15 marks), Basics of Computers & Applications (20 marks), Mathematics (20 marks), and Basic Science & Engineering (35 marks).
  • Grade III CBT Syllabus Sections: Covers Mathematics (25 marks), General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 marks), General Science (40 marks), and General Awareness (10 marks).

Stage 2: Document Verification (DV)

Candidates will be short-listed based on normalization of marks scored during the CBT at a ratio of 1:1 against existing vacancies. Original certificates must be submitted during validation checkpoints.

Stage 3: Medical Examination (ME)

Shortlisted individuals must undergo extensive checkups via official Railway Medical Teams to satisfy visual and general physical health conditions before final empanelment.{inAds}

  • Live Photo Required: Candidates do not upload pre-stored pictures. The application software requires capturing a live picture through a functional phone camera or webcam. Stand or sit against a clear background, avoid wearing any headgear, masks, or spectacles, and wear dark-colored clothing for contrast.
  • Signature Format: Must be penned manually utilizing a black ink pen over plain white paper using a clear, fluid cursive writing standard.
