Essential Qualifications & Experience
1. Professor
- For Medical Candidates (General Disciplines): A medical qualification included in Schedule I or II or Part II of the Third Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, along with a recognized post-graduate qualification such as MD/MS in the respective discipline. Candidates must have 14 years of teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in the subject of specialty after obtaining MD/MS.
- For Medical Candidates (Super Speciality Disciplines): M.Ch. for surgical super specialities or D.M. for medical super specialities (2, 3, or 5-year course). Experience requirement is 12 years post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 2 or 5-year courses) OR 11 years post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 3-year courses) in a recognized institution in the specialty.
- For Non-Medical Candidates: Master's degree (M.Sc.) in the concerned discipline (Anatomy, Pharmacology, or Microbiology) and a Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) from a recognized University in the concerned subject, with 14 years of teaching and/or research experience after obtaining the Ph.D.{inAds}
2. Additional Professor
- For Medical Candidates (General Disciplines): Same basic medical qualification and MD/MS degree as Professor, with 10 years of teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in the specialty after obtaining MD/MS.
- For Medical Candidates (Super Speciality Disciplines): D.M./M.Ch. in the respective super speciality discipline. Required experience is 8 years post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 2 or 5-year courses) OR 7 years post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 3-year courses) in a recognized institution.
- For Non-Medical Candidates: Master's degree (M.Sc.) and Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in the concerned subject, with 10 years of teaching and/or research experience after obtaining the Doctorate degree.
3. Associate Professor
- For Medical Candidates (General Disciplines): Same basic medical qualification and MD/MS degree as Professor, with 6 years of teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in the specialty post-MD/MS.
- For Medical Candidates (Super Speciality Disciplines): D.M./M.Ch. in the respective discipline. Required experience is 4 years post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 2 or 5-year courses) OR 3 years post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 3-year courses) in a recognized institution.
- For Non-Medical Candidates: Master's degree (M.Sc.) and Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in the concerned subject, with 6 years of teaching and/or research experience after obtaining the Ph.D. degree.
4. Assistant Professor
- For Medical Candidates (General Disciplines): Same basic medical qualification and MD/MS degree as Professor, along with 3 years of teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in the specialty post-MD/MS.
- For Medical Candidates (Super Speciality Disciplines): D.M./M.Ch. in the respective discipline. Experience requirement is 1 year post-D.M./M.Ch. (for 2 or 5-year courses). However, no prior experience is required for candidates possessing a 3-year recognized D.M./M.Ch. degree.
- For Non-Medical Candidates: Master's degree (M.Sc.) and Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in the concerned subject, with 3 years of teaching and/or research experience post-Ph.D.
DNB Equivalence & Teaching Rules: Candidates holding DNB qualifications must submit documentary proof of DNB equivalence with MD/MS/DM/M.Ch as per NMC guidelines. DNB candidates from certain non-teaching institutions require 1 to 2 years of additional experience. A one-year teaching/research experience relaxation is applicable for SC/ST candidates as per DoPT rules.
