- Institutions must belong to sections 2(f) & 3 of the UGC Act with valid NAAC accreditation, be fully government-funded institutions, or be Institutes of National Importance with valid AISHE codes.

- Selection is made purely on State-wise merit from online NSP applications.
- Tie-breaker procedure: Class X examination marks, followed by age preference (older candidates preferred).
- Results are declared around November/December on the NSP Portal and UGC official website.
- Disbursement is made directly into student bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) / PFMS.
- Aadhaar linking with a KYC-compliant bank account is mandatory.
