ONGC Sports Scholarship Selection Criteria
The selection process under the ONGC Sports Scholarship Scheme 2026-27 is conducted strictly on a merit-cum-performance basis, tailored to the specific category of sports:
- Individual Ranking Sports: For disciplines such as Badminton, Golf, Squash, Table Tennis, and Tennis, selection is based on official National and International Rankings available as of the application deadline. Points are awarded strictly based on ranking positions.
- Other Individual Sports: Disciplines like Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Para Sports, Shooting, Swimming, and Wrestling are evaluated using a predefined evaluation score matrix based on the applicant's single best achievement or performance certificate recorded between January 1, 2025, and the application closing date.
- Team Sports: For Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, and Volleyball, candidate selection involves a 100-mark evaluation system split into two stages:
- Sports Achievements (70 Marks Maximum): Evaluated via past tournament performance matrices. Applicants must score a minimum of 15 marks to qualify for the practical selection trials.
- Game Selection Trials (30 Marks Maximum): Conducted in Delhi/NCR or designated ONGC venues. Candidates must secure at least 22.5 marks in the trial to be considered for final selection.
- Chess: Evaluated based on official Standard FIDE ratings and active participation in standard FIDE-rated tournaments held between January 1, 2025, and the closing date. Higher FIDE ratings receive higher preference.
- Tie-Breaking Provision: In the event of a tie in points or evaluation scores across any sports category, preference is given to the older candidate. If a tie persists, the final decision rests with the ONGC Selection Committee.
