Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have officially issued Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 04/2026 inviting online applications for 3,993 vacancies across various Indian Railway zones. The recruitment drive is conducted to fill posts of Junior Engineer (JE) and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) under Pay Level 6 of the 7th CPC. Eligible and interested engineering candidates can register online through the official portal from 14th August 2026 to 13th September 2026.

Post Details and Salary Structure

Selected candidates for Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent will be placed in Pay Level 6 under the 7th Central Pay Commission with an initial basic pay of ₹ 35,400/- per month, plus applicable railway allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and Free Railway Pass/PTO facilities as per rules.

  • Junior Engineer (JE): Technical supervision across Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, S&T, and allied streams.
  • Depot Material Superintendent (DMS): Stores and material management responsibilities in railway depots.

Age Limit Criteria

  • Standard Age Range: 18 to 33 years as on 01.01.2027 (Candidates must not be born after 01.01.2009 and not earlier than 02.01.1994 for Unreserved/EWS).
  • SC/ST Candidates: Upper age relaxation of 5 years (Date of birth not earlier than 02.01.1989).
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): Upper age relaxation of 3 years (Date of birth not earlier than 02.01.1991).
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years for UR/EWS, 6 years for OBC-NCL, 8 years for SC/ST after deduction of service length.
  • PwBD Candidates: 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC-NCL, 15 years for SC/ST.
  • Serving Railway Staff (Minimum 3 Years Service): Relaxed up to 40 years for UR/EWS, 43 years for OBC-NCL, 45 years for SC/ST.

Educational Qualification Requirements

Candidates must possess prescribed technical and professional qualifications from a recognized Board, University, or Institute on or before the closing date (13.09.2026). Candidates waiting for final results are not eligible to apply.

  • Junior Engineer (JE): Three years Diploma in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology in relevant disciplines (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science, IT, S&T, or allied streams).
  • Depot Material Superintendent (DMS): Three years Diploma in Engineering in any discipline or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.

Examination Fee & Refund Scheme

  • General, OBC, and Unreserved Candidates: ₹ 500/-. An amount of ₹ 400/- will be refunded (deducting bank charges) upon appearing in the 1st Stage CBT.
  • SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities, and EBC Candidates: ₹ 250/-. The full fee of ₹ 250/- will be refunded (deducting bank charges) upon appearing in the 1st Stage CBT.
  • Payment Method: Online payment only via Internet Banking, Debit/Credit cards, or UPI.
  • Bank Account for Refund: Refunds will be credited directly to the bank account seeded with the applicant's account details.{inAds}

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

The complete selection process comprises four stages: 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I), 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II), Document Verification (DV), and Medical Examination (ME).

1st Stage CBT (Screening Test)

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible scribe candidates).
  • Total Questions: 100 Objective Type Questions (100 Marks).
  • Subject Breakdown: Mathematics (30 questions/30 marks), General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 questions/25 marks), General Awareness (15 questions/15 marks), General Science (30 questions/30 marks).
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • Qualifying Percentages: UR - 40%, EWS - 40%, OBC(NCL) - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 25%.

2nd Stage CBT

  • Shortlisting: Candidates equal to 15 times the community-wise vacancies will be shortlisted based on normalized marks in CBT-I.
  • Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for scribe candidates).
  • Total Questions: 150 Objective Type Questions (150 Marks).
  • Subject Breakdown: General Awareness (15 marks), Physics & Chemistry up to 10th CBSE (15 marks), Basics of Computers & Applications (10 marks), Basics of Environment & Pollution Control (10 marks), Technical Abilities (100 marks).
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for every wrong attempt.
  • Virtual Calculator: A virtual calculator will be provided on screen during CBT-II.
